the cleaning blog

The Christmas holidays are around the corner and many of you will be hosting family and friends. So, pour yourself a cuppa your favourite, put on some festive music and let’s tackle the cleaning!

General areas:

  • Give all the surfaces, including the walls and doors a wipe and be sure to give any marks an extra scrub with detergent – look for those places where the pets have rubbed up against the walls and pay particular attention to light switches and doorknobs. You will need to move your ornaments and wipe under them – the dust gets there as well.
  • We know it is hard work, but clean the windows, nothing adds sparkle to your home like clean windows and that means cleaning the inside and out!
  • Spot clean carpets to remove any stains.
  • Vacuum everywhere, which means moving the refrigerator, couches and beds!
  • Shake out doormats or wash them if necessary, but make sure you have these in place, it does stop dirt from coming in – why not put out festive season mats for fun.
  • Wash any throw blankets and scatter cushion covers.
  • Something we always forget is how dusty our houseplants get – wipe them down with a damp paper towel. They look so much healthier.
  • Leaving vacuuming and mopping to the end because you always end up dropping things on the floor while tidying up.

  • Add fresh flowers and scented candles to your home.

Kitchen:

  • Pay attention to your kitchen. People spend a great deal of time here over the holidays. Deep clean your oven, fridge and freezer if they need cleaning. This is a great time of the year to do a good clean out of the fridge to make space for all the festive season food that will need storing.
  • Make sure you have a good supply of clean dishcloths and plenty of garbage bags at hand for the festive season.

Bathrooms:

  • Give those showers and baths a good scrub to remove any soap residue and marks.
  • It has to be done – give the toilet a good scrub with a toilet brush and cleaner.
  • Clean your mirrors and ensure they are streak-free.
  • Don’t leave personal toiletries out on the vanity – pack them away and only display those toiletries available for your guests to use.
  • Ensure that your guests have adequate fresh bath towels.

Bedrooms:

  • Make all the beds up with fresh linen.
  • Don’t leave any personal items you do not want your guests using in the guest bedrooms.
  • Finally, make sure there are coat hangers in the cupboards and shelf space available for your guests.

It all sounds very overwhelming, but don’t procrastinate, tackle one room at a time and before you know it, you will get there or give us a call and we will bring in our team to give your home a once over holiday clean and add that sparkle that will and have it ready for your guests.
